In Conversation With … Paul Goode, who talks to Nona about his PV and how it was diagnosed in March 2020. Paul tells Nona that in 2019 he was experiencing itchy skin, he searched the internet for some answers and made some changes to products he was using, but nothing helped. He then received an invitation from a health screening company to have a range of tests and a telephone consultation with a doctor. The results included a haematological profile, which flagged up that his red cells, platelets and haematocrit were all raised. He was advised to see his GP, who confirmed the diagnosis of PV. He has now been taking Hydroxycarbamide since 2020 and has 2 venesections a year, he eats healthily and does yoga, and says that he feels fortunate that PV doesn’t have much of an impact on him and that he is less symptomatic than some people.
