Hello my name is Gloria
After a routine blood test in February 2010 I was diagnosed with essential thrombocythaemia. I was 68 Years old. My platelet count was 700 and I had a bone marrow aspiration to confirm the diagnosis. I was shocked to say the least as I thought of myself as very healthy.
I was started on hydroxycarbamide which wasn’t very effective, so changed onto daily anagrelide which was very good and my platelets came down into the normal range.
I thought that would be it, however in December 2013 I was diagnosed as having Myelofibrosis which was a great shock and my haemoglobin is at 9.1 at the moment.
You just have to live each day to the full and hope there will be a cure soon.
